Proposed peak category for Experienced Racers Only.
(1) Aircraft: Scale representation of any full-size aircraft that were legal to qualify in either the Goodyear Trophy or Formula 1 races. Maximum wingspan of full size is 20 feet.
Scale: 35% with 2% variation (plus not minus) measured from the outside of the line on the three view. Gross variations will be subject to further scrutiny. Variations above 2% of a non-performance enhancing nature may be allowed upon individual application. Flying wires not required even if on prototype.
Documentation: Published three view from Goodyear and F1 Air Racing Volumes 1 and 2 by Robert S Hirsch and The Air Racer by Charles A Mendenhall. Other documentation subject to approval. Drawings containing incorrect dimensions not accepted.
Cockpit: Must have a clear windshield with a 1/3 scale pilot head and minimum three instruments on the panel.
Cowl: 300mm minimum width across the cheeks.
Undercarriage: Fixed, with scale spats if on prototype.
Wheels: Minimum diameter 98mm (4 inches) Minimum width 20mm.
Radio system: 2.4 GHZ, 1700mAh RX battery minimum. One servo per control surface Minimum torque rating of 4.5kgcm (69oz-in). Elevators cannot be joined to make them 1 surface.
(2 ) Engine: Maximum capacity 63cc, performance enhancing modifications are allowed. Due to the higher speed and RPM nature of this class, all engines must incorporate a separate fuel shut off as part of the TX engine switch and failsafe settings.
(3) Fuel: Any MAAA legal fuel.
(4) Muffler: Expansion muffler, canister or tuned pipe (majority hidden in cowl/fuselage).
(5) Prop: Any MAAA legal prop.
